Dr. Steven Armentrout

Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Steven Armentrout, Founder & CEO of Parabon Computation, has over 25 years of experience designing solutions to solve data-heavy and compute-intensive problems. For the first 15 years of his career, Dr. Armentrout and his colleagues tackled computationally demanding problems in domains ranging from neural modeling to investment forecasting. Finding computational and storage capacity sufficient to solve these problems was an ever-present and costly challenge.

Desiring a robust, scalable, on-demand computing platform, able to handle even the largest machine learning and data mining problems, which were then his focus, Dr. Armentrout founded Parabon in 1999 with the goal of creating a computation service available to anyone with an Internet connection. In 2000, under his leadership, Parabon launched the first commercial Internet-based grid computing platform and today operates the only brokered computation service available in the world. Additionally, the Company’s software manages secure enterprise computing platforms within the commercial sector, as well as within the DoD and the IC.

He has extensive experience designing predictive analytics systems and solving large-scale scientific modeling and simulation problems. Early in his career he worked for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and a large federal government contractor, where he designed and developed object-oriented image processing algorithms and analytical tools that addressed the demands associated with large image stores.

Dr. Armentrout has spent the last decade architecting innovative high-performance computing solutions for the Internet, the enterprise and virtualized data centers. He earned his PhD in computer science from the University of Maryland, and his work is published in numerous scientific and technical journals, including Science magazine, Neural Computation and Artificial Intelligence in Medicine.
